A 27-year-old man was asleep inside his locked room at a Bourke motel was woken with a torch in his face, a knife at his neck, and demands for him to hand over everything he had by two young men at 430am on Thursday June 15.
The man, a pest controller, handed over his car keys, mobile phone and wallet.
His boss, Dubbo-based Barry Heaslip, director of Inland Pest Management, said this was the second time this happened at the motel to one of his staff in the last 12 months.
The first time it occurred the worker resigned from his job; in the latest incident, the man took leave and applied for Workcover.
"He's not sleeping well and is experiencing some anxiety from that incident. It has really upset him. For this to happen, but then to occur when someone is sleeping in their hotel room, it's just not acceptable".
Heaslip, whose company sponsors the Bourke Junior 14's Rugby side, said he is considering whether it is "worth it" to keep returning to the town.
"We need accountability. Tradespeople will stop visiting the town."
A spokesperson from NSW Police has told the Western Plains App that another incident in another motel also occurred that morning.

"In a separate incident, about 5.30am, two people – one armed with a knife – forced entry into a motel room on Anson Street, Bourke, making threats to two occupants," the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said the male occupant – aged 34 – startled the pair and chased them out of the room. They stole a mobile phone and wallet before they fled on foot south along Glen Street with two other people.
