Men airlifted to hospital following head-on collision in Lightning RidgeA head-on collision in Lightning Ridge on Monday evening has resulted in two men being airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Two men are being treated in hospital following a severe head-on collision between two vehicles in Lightning Ridge on Monday 16 May.

 

At about 5.10pm, local police were called to the Benny Walfords crossing on Bill O'Brien Way at Lightning Ridge after a Toyota Hilux and Toyota Landcruiser collided.


 

The driver of the Hilux – a 23-year-old man – was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital with serious head injuries.

 

A passenger in the Landcruiser – a 59-year-old man – was also taken to hospital with injuries.

 

His condition wasn't known by police, however, there have been unverified reports on social media that his leg was broken in three places.

 

The driver of the Landcruiser was not injured but was taken to hospital to undergo mandatory blood and urine testing.

 

Officers from Central North Police District are continuing to investigate the incident.
