Narromine’s Legends of League The International Legends of League game at Cale Oval will take place on Saturday 29 April 2023 and include the naming and unveiling of the new Bob Weir Grandstand.

The Narromine Shire Council is eagerly anticipating the arrival of the International Legends of League at Cale Oval on Saturday 29 April 2023.

The event will feature a rugby league game that will see the QUBE Agri Narromine Jets All-Stars team up with ex-rugby league greats David Gillespie and David Walsh to take on the International Legends of League Alkane Resources Team.

The latter will include legends such as Cliff Lyons, John Hopoate, and Ben Hannant.

The Bob Weir Grandstand at Cale Oval will also be officially unveiled and named during the day, marking an exciting moment for the Narromine Shire sporting community as thelate Mr Weir was a stalwart of the Narromine Jets Rugby League Club and a brilliant sportsman.

The upgrade of the grandstand was made possible through a combination of Federal Local Roads Community Infrastructure Funding and Resource for Regions Funding, totalling an estimated $1.5 million. It involved demolishing of the old grandstand, with a new grandstand erected as well as a spectator hill and new fencing surrounding the perimeter of the playing field.

These upgrades were part of an overall Masterplan at the site, which included the newly constructed netball courts, parking, and landscaping.

This year, the council is continuing its upgrade of the tennis courts and building a new clubhouse for the tennis club at the northern end of Cale Oval, marking the final piece of the Masterplan.

The event will begin with school football clinics, sporting club visits, and social events in the Narromine region throughout the week leading up to the league game on Saturday.

According to Narromine Shire Council’s Deputy Mayor, Clr Dawn Collins, the council is excited about the impact the International Legends of League players will have when they are out in the community, spreading positive messages about the importance of exercise, mental health, and sense of community.

Collins stated that "Narromine Shire Council is pleased to facilitate and deliver these kind of initiatives that make such a positive contribution to our community and that is exactly what International Legends of League is."

The event is expected to draw a large crowd, with locals excited to see some of their own play against NRL legends.

Additionally, the returning players are taking time out of their busy calendars to give back to the game they love and engage with young people in the region.

The Jets Rugby League Club played an instrumental role in attracting the Legends of League, and the council will be the presenting sponsor for clinics and talks throughout the Narromine region.

For more information on the International Legends of League visit to Narromine, interested parties can visit the International Legends of League Facebook page, as well as the council’s Facebook page and website in the coming weeks.

Narromine Shire Council is excited to host this event and looks forward to welcoming the International Legends of League to the region.
