Chairman of Narromine Local Aboriginal Lands Council Michael Clarke says new social housing money from the Federal Government to build new homes is ‘’a blessing and life changer ‘’ for those who are battling to find somewhere to live in his town.

The funding from the Government’s Social Housing Acceleration Fund will help two indigenous families.

The homes will be situated behind Narromine Bowling Club on Aboriginal Lands Council owned land.

‘’The prices for any housing is so unaffordable and rents are skyrocketing everywhere even here so we are blessed to support Indigenous families with low incomes," Mr Clarke said.

Mr Clarke thanked Narromine Council for their help with processing the development approval quickly.

"We hope to break ground soon and the homes could be completed within six months."

He said builders have looked at the site to see changes which have to be made including the demolishing of a run-down flat there.

Grace Toomey from the NSW Aboriginal Lands said this big news for Narromine.

"It's huge news and helps families who are desperately in need of affordable accommodation.’’

The transition of people moving from further west of Narromine has also put pressure on housing in the area but Mr Clarke says everything is available in his town.

"Narromine has a growing business area and Dubbo is close for the bigger shopping centres so they can settle in and be part of the community."

The Social Housing Acceleration Fund began in 2023 to improve the lives of indigenous people and build social homes for communities.
