Police seek witnesses from September animal shooting Police are calling for information on September animal shooting

Rural Crime Investigators are looking into an illegal livestock hunt which killed multiple goats and two sheep just north of Bourke between 7 and 8 September this year.

On 8 September 19 rangeland goats were found shot dead inside a private property along Lower Lila Road.

Police from Central North Police District and Rural Crime Investigators attended the crime scene, finding spent ammunition and packaging along the road.

Following further investigations, a pet goat and two sheep were located dead in a house paddock nearby.

The pet goat and one sheep were subject of an autopsy, and a rifle projectile was recovered from each animal, which is the subject of further testing and analysis.

ATV and vehicle tracks were located on Lower Lila Road and Rural Crime Investigators believe there were potential witnesses camping in a caravan nearby that may be able to assist with the investigation.

Rural Crime Investigators believe the campers were not local to the Bourke area and encouraging the public to help them find the potential witnesses.

Police are encouraging anyone with information to please contact the Rural Crime Investigators at Bourke Police Station on (02) 6870 0899 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. (Quote reference number E101106722).
