Two unoccupied houses in Coonamble suffered suspicious fires early this morning.

The local Fire & Rescue crew were just finishing up the first, in Aberford St which they responded to around 3.30am, when a second fire was reported in Arthur St.

While damage in Aberford St was confined to one room, the Arthur St fire was fully light when firefighters arrived and the house was lost.

By the cold light of day.

A grassfire was then reported in the river bed, which was attended to by Fire & Rescue Gilgandra which had been sent up to assist.

Police and ambulance were both in attendance.

"They are both suspicious fires so they have been handed over to the police for investigation," said Coonamble Fire & Rescue Commander Andrew Morley.

If anyone witnessed any suspicious activity, please contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
