From his small team at Quirindi, long time successful trainer Geoff O’Brien has produced yet another outstanding prospect in Tainui, winner of the 1600 metres Commonwealth Bank Agribusiness-Cotton Cup, on Sunday 9 November at Warren.

A 4-year-old gelding, Tainui from only 11 starts has recorded 4 wins (Coonamble, Wellington, Tamworth and Warren) and 4 placings and earned connections over $100,000 prizemoney with the winning distances ranging from 1400 metres to 2,100 metres.

Dubbo jockey Kody Nestor continued his success in Country Cups with a fop ride on Tainui which settled behind the leaders Saint Philomena, Blue Guitar and Epic Poem.

Saint Philomena (Kath Bell-Pitomac, $21) held on gamely but was beaten a half neck by Tainui ($3.70 favourite) with Blue Guitar (Mathew Cahill, $4.40) a length away third.

Clever planning by Dubbo trainer Connie Greig culminated in Line Of Law making it 4 wins in succession when taking out the 1200 metres Nutrien Ag Solutions Class 2 Handicap at Warren with Mikayla Weir in the saddle.

Winner of the $50,000 Picnic Sprint Championship at Dubbo, Line Of Law then won at Young Picnics and Harden Picnics before going to Warren as a $12 chance and leading all the way for a close win from Sorrento Palace (Jake Pracey-Holmes, $3 favourite) and Missy Moss (Donovan Dillon, $5).

Mikayla Weir completed a double when the Ross Lomax, Mudgee trained Desirous won the 1000 metres Elders Warren-Benchmark 58 Handicap.

Eased around the heels of the leading pair, Desirous ($9) displayed good acceleration to score by over a length from Emphatic Bel (Chelsea Hillier, $7.50) and Brummagen (Jake Pracey-Holmes, $2.80 to $2.60 favourite).

Riding in top form, Jake Pracey-Holmes also landed a winning double, the first leg being the Mack Griffith, Mudgee trained Unsolved in the 1200 metres Queensland Cotton-Country Boosted Maiden Plate.

Gaining clear running halfway down the straight, Unsolved ($5.50) sprinted away from Don’t Say Do (Chelsea Hillier, $2.05 favourite) and Megaphone Miss (Jacob Stiff, $21).

Jake Pracey-Holmes later led for home on the Mack Griffith trained Stratified ($4.80) which held on to beat Life’s A Party (Donavan Dillon, $5.50) and Rouge Moulin (Izzy Neale, $2.90 favourite) in the 1200 metres Macquarie Toyota-Benchmark 82 Handicap.

Placed at Coonamble and Coonabarabran after coming from Victoria to the Brett Thompson stable, Yiasou ($3.10 to $2.60) under apprentice Dylan Stanley led all the way to win the 1400 metres Peter Bill Australia-Maiden Handicap by 5 lengths from Preordained (Mathew Cahill, $15) and Conversations (James Rogers, $31).

The other Warren winner was the Lyle Chandler, Scone trained Regal Problem (Donovan Dillon, $1.70 to $1.90 favourite) in the 1400 metres Ecom Commodities-Country Boosted Benchmark 58 Handicap.

Heavy bookings for marquee spaces have already been received for the Twilight TAB meeting at Warren on Friday 12 December. Coonamble races the next day with marquees also available for their Christmas Race Meeting.
