The wonders never cease at upcoming Walgett showTake a stroll down Sideshow Alley.

It’s time to shine for the Walgett Show Committee who, despite a change in date, are on track for one of their biggest local Shows yet on 6 and 7 April (Saturday and Sunday), 2024.

For a Shire brimming with small towns, the local Show has become an opportunity for the entire community to gather, compete, and enjoy what the day has to offer.

“The Committee have been working very hard behind the scenes from the last Show to this Show to present an event with something for everyone,” Walgett Show Society President David Berrell said.

There’s no shortage of things to do, including a Bluey and Bingo Meet and Greet, Fairy La La Land musical, All Star Wrestling Australia, interactive dinosaur display, and reptile show.

For the competitively inclined, the Show is your oyster, with meat smoking competition, mower racing and johnny cake challenge, as well as the Pavilion competitions.

If it’s entertainment you’re looking for, head to the Bike and Ute Shows, the Battle of the Barwon, Walgett Show Campdraft and Saturday night fireworks, bar and live music.

Despite being a tough climate for local organisations to build a volunteer base, Mr Berrell said that Walgett’s Show Society has beaten the odds.

“We’ve got a very strong committee and I’m very grateful for that.”

“We look forward to young support coming in, and we’re working on it.”

“Everyone loves the Show, so it’s pretty easy to get things done.”

For anyone looking to more than just attend and enjoy, Mr Berrell said it’s not too late to get involved with the competition.

“Entry dates vary so check the Pavilion schedule, our website and social media posts. Some competitions aren’t finalised until the Friday before the Show, so people have right up until the Show to enter.,” Mr Berrell said.

The Show will also feature trade, business, community group and specialty displays & stalls, Sideshow Alley, yard dog trials, dog sports and pets, show jumping and sporting, and Quickshears.

The Show Committee encourages everyone coming along to follow for updates on the Walgett Show Society Facebook page. Walgettshow.com or contact the Walgett Show Society office on 0499 933 767.

“We look forward to a great weekend for all Showgoers.”
