A third person has been charged for involvement in a South Australian break-in following a vehicle stop in Cobar last month.Â

The 50-year-old who was a passenger in the vehicle was arrested in Sturt Park in Broken Hill before midday on Saturday, 1 March 2025.Â

On Monday 24 February around 1am, a 74-year-old man was assaulted by three armed men in his home in Yorketown, South Australia.Â

That same day around 8:45am an officer from Broken Hill Highway Patrol stopped a white Hyundai on the Barrier Highway near Broken Hill.Â

A passenger from the van ran off while the driver, a 49-year-old man, was arrested.Â

Inside the car police located 14 firearms, a semi-automatic loaded shotgun, and a large quantity of collectable coins and other cash.Â

Around 3pm that afternoon, officers from Central North Police District stopped a white van on the outskirts of Cobar, which police suspected had been travelling with the van stopped in Broken Hill.Â

Two men, aged 49 and 35, were charged and remain before the courts.Â

Following extensive inquiries to locate the passenger, a 50-year-old man was arrested in Sturt Park Broken Hill on Saturday, 1 March.Â

He was taken to Broken Hill police station where the outstanding warrant was executed and he was charged with receiving stolen property from outside NSW, possession of a loaded firearm in a public place, not keeping a firearm safely and 15 counts of possession of an unauthorised firearm.Â

The man appeared at Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday 2 March where he was formally refused bail and will appear before Broken Hill Local Court again on Tuesday 29 April.Â
