The Warrumbungle Shire is set to sparkle this month with a variety of Christmas events, inviting locals and visitors alike to celebrate the holiday season in style.
“These festive events are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the season with our local community, as well as visitors to our beautiful region,” said Warrumbungle Shire Mayor, Councillor Kathryn Rindfleish.
“Communities have worked hard to organise a range of activities that will bring joy to all ages,” Cr Rindfleish said.
Highlights of the celebrations include unique market stalls offering handcrafted gifts ideal for holiday shopping, outdoor activities for the whole family, and, weather permitting, fireworks display that will light up the night sky, bringing extra festive cheer.
In Coolah, festivities kicked off last Saturday, December 7 with the annual grand street parade, a well-loved staple in the community.
"There is plenty of other Christmas events happening across the entire Warrumbungle Shire as well.”
Enjoy the festive season, and do your bit to support small business, is the message from Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor, Kathryn Rindfleish.
“This season is about more than just fun—it’s about creating connections, supporting local businesses, and building a sense of community."
Ms Rindfleish is heavily involved in the Coolah community and is as President of Coolah Chamber of Commerce and Treasurer of the Coolah Swimming Club.
Previously, she held many positions on committees such as Coolah Central School P&C.
A proud owner of several small businesses, Ms Rindfleish exchanged her "Mayoral hat" for her "Coolah Chamber of Commerce hat" when speaking with the Western Plains App, highlighting that spending locally is vital for small businesses.
“By shopping locally, our residents contribute directly to the region’s economy while experiencing the charm of towns like Baradine, Binnaway, Coonabarabran, Coolah, Dunedoo, and Mendooran,” she said.
“Our main concern is keeping money in town. Businesses in small towns need support and things like grocery shops, are vital to the community.
"In Coolah, we’re lucky to have what we do—an IGA, a chemist, and a hairdresser.
"Supporting local businesses ensures they continue to serve the community. It’s tempting to shop online or save a few dollars by buying elsewhere, but it’s at the expense of local businesses," Cr Rindfleish said.
"If people want local businesses to thrive, they need to support them.”
Just some of the festive fun on offer includes:
As many events are weather-dependent, residents and visitors are encouraged to check forecasts and stay informed about any changes.
Pet owners should also secure pets during fireworks displays to ensure their safety.
“We invite everyone to join in the festive celebrations across the region this December, to shop locally, support regional businesses, and create special memories with family and friends,” Ms Rindfleish said.
