Traffic west of Cobar on the Barrier Highway was diverted for up to ten hours after a fatal crash yesterday.

Normal access has resumed in the area following the single-vehicle crash that killed a 14-year-old boy yesterday morning.

Police confirmed that traffic reopened at around 7:30pm last night between Cobar and Wilcannia.

The highway was closed for around nine to ten hours as emergency services, Transport for NSW and the Crash Investigation Unit attended the scene in Cubba, about 25 kilometres west of Cobar.

Motorists travelling between Cobar and Wilcannia stood to add around 6.5 hours to their travel time due to diversions, according to Live Traffic NSW.

The teenager was one of four passengers in the car.

Two of the passengers were not injured.

The 23-year-old driver was uninjured and taken to Cobar District Hospital for mandatory testing.

She was later taken to Cobar Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death.

She was given conditional bail to appear before Cobar Local Court on Wednesday 27 November 2024.
