The Newell Highway has re-opened after a B double truck crashed and caught fire earlier today, Wednesday 23 April, near Tooraweenah.

The driver is critical in Dubbo Hospital, the truck destroyed.

The Newell Highway was closed in both directions at Tooraweenah north of Gilgandra between Coonabarabran Road and Flora Reserve Road.

Northbound and southbound diversions between Gilgandra, Mendooran and Coonabarabran is via the Castlereagh Highway, Yalcogran Street, Tooraweenah Road, Coonabarabran Road and Newell Highway in each direction were in place.

Road trains travelling northbound or southbound used the Castlereagh Highway via Walgett and Kamilaroi Highway to Narrabri .

Motorists are still advised to exercise caution and allow extra travel time.
