Walgett CWA updates co-working spaceThe Walgett CWA is an active group, excited about receiving funding to update their hall for hire.

Walgett CWA Hall, home to the 45 strong local CWA group is one of five halls set for a make-over thanks to funding received by the state body.

Walgett secretary, Christine Ford, said the group was excited about the upcoming transformation of their meeting space.

"We only heard we had been approved as one of five pilot branches to receive funding about a week before Christmas last year," Ms Ford said.

"We aim to update the hall with desks, chairs and other facilities such as printers and wi-fi, all which make it an attractive co-working space that we can hire out."

Ms Ford said the Walgett CWA was established in 1924 and used the old hall for many years until it burned down around 2005.

The hall was rebuilt by 2008, consequently it is a modern building which they have been able to regularly hire out, but with other good meeting rooms now available in Walgett, the committee have found demand has dropped dramatically.

"The income from hiring our rooms is a big boost for our group," Ms Ford said. "It helps cover things like insurances. We hope by modifying our space, we will continue to attract people willing to hire the hall."

Ms Ford, who has been secretary of the Walgett CWA for five years is also group secretary for the Barwon region which covers seven local branches.

"In Walgett, we meet once a month so there is plenty of available time for hiring the hall," she said. "We have dividers where we can create four separate working spaces if needed."

CWA of NSW CEO Danica Leys said the state organisation was thrilled to be awarded the opportunity to create the co-working spaces in smaller regional, rural and remote communities across the state.

“In true CWA of NSW style this is a practical undertaking that will support these communities to grow remote working and learning opportunities, build collaborative networks, and connect with each other and their community more broadly.”
