Brewarrina Shire Council will once again be holding its annual ‘Welcome to Bre’ event on Wednesday, 25th February at the Brewarrina Visitor Information Centre.

The event which welcomes new residents to the area, is aimed at strengthening community connection and showcasing all that the small rural town, with a big heart, has to offer.

Each new resident will receive a welcome pack featuring local information, including business listings, health services, school contacts and other helpful resources to support their transition into the community.

Following on from the success of previous years, General Manager David Kirby says the event continues to play an important role in helping new residents feel at home while celebrating the spirit and diversity of the Brewarrina community.

“The ‘Welcome to Bre’ event is a crucial initiative for our community. It helps new residents, and their families, settle in by providing them with a platform to meet others, find out about community groups and services in town, and build networks,” Mr Kirby said.

The 2026 event will link, new residents, with Brewarrina locals and a line-up of community groups and organisations that will provide information on their services from around town.

“Our community’s diversity and vibrancy are our greatest strengths, and this event is a celebration of that. We look forward to welcoming our new residents and supporting them as they become an integral part of our community,” said Councillor Kirby.

All Community groups, organisations and those who provide services are encouraged to attend, to help new residents find their place in the Brewarrina Shire, with light refreshments and snacks to be provided.

Ramesh Selliah moved to Australia from Sri Lanka in 2008, moving to Brewarrina in 2025, and attended last year’s event.

“It was good to meet some of the people of Brewarrina and it was very informative,” said Mr Selliah.

“Brewarrina is unique as a small town; it’s a great town. It has its different challenges and things to cater for, but everyone is friendly, laidback and down to earth,” said Mr Selliah.
