The skies well and truly opened across the Western Plains last night, with some communities clocking up over 60 millimetres following a flood watch warning for the area.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a flood watch warning across multiple regions in NSW, with a series of troughs and a cold front causing vigorous winds and heavy rainfall.
Predictions proved true as rain covered the region in the 24 hours to 10 am on August 5.
Pilliga was on the receiving end of 40mL while Baradine took the lead in the region with 63mL. Meanwhile the town of Gilgandra received 44mL, just behind the 49mL at Angledool.
BOM warned that the rain could cause minor to moderate flooding along the Castlereagh, Macquarie/Wambuul and Bogan Rivers, as well as the Lachlan River where flood warnings were already in place.
The Macquarie River at Narromine is likely to exceed the minor flood level (5.50 metres) Friday evening.
The river level may reach around 8.00 metres Saturday afternoon, with minor flooding.
The Macquarie River at Warren Town may reach the moderate flood level (8.50 metres) during Sunday.
While no local river is looking at major flood warnings, drivers are urged to be careful after a vehicle was swept into a flooded causeway overnight near Mudgee.
While the cold front was expected to ease by the weekend, gloomy skies could linger across the weekend with chances of showers across the Western Plains.
Several councils have issued road closures across the Western Plains, with many closing all unsealed roads until further notice.
Road users are urged to avoid closed roads for their own safety, and to avoid any flood waters.
