Police are investigating after a 12-year-old girl allegedly stabbed a 17-year-old boy in Walgett.

Police allege she stabbed him around midday on Wednesday 4 December in Arthur Street.

The boy was flown to Dubbo Hospital in a stable condition.

The girl was arrested at Walgett Police Station.

A police spokesperson said she has been released and would be dealt with through youth conferencing. 

A youth conference is a meeting between a young person who has committed an offence, the victim and other people who know about the offence, and is aimed at repairing harm caused by the offence.
