Gulgargambone Jockey Club will be 100 years old today (Saturday 30 August) and race club secretary Marina Colwell says the weather has been ideal in the lead up and track is in top order.

‘’The boys have done a super job with track and the meeting is boosted with big fields, so we're pleased with that," she said.

Off track activities have generated fantastic support and the Gulargambone Rugby Club will be on site early for their end-of-season celebrations.

Family gatherings and a reunion or two have been scheduled to coincide with the 100 Year Race Meeting.

"Fashions on the Field will be again be hotly contested we have top support from our sponsors so great prizes on offer.’’

‘’The Lollie Lady will be handing out ‘’Energy Pills’’ for the kids,‘’ she said with a chuckle.

‘’Plus a Rural Transaction Centre stall will also help our farmers.’’

"Post-Cup Gulargambone will go music crazy with live entertainment at the pub and bowling club to ensure the party goes on.’’

Track set and ready for today's Gold Cup racing at Gulargambone.

Long term locals Warren Hull and Barry Malone who have served the Jockey Club for more than 50 years will also be honoured and each winning owner will receive a 100 year anniversary rug.

Racing will begin at 1pm featuring the Inland Petroleum Gulgargambone Cup over 1200m bringing a capacity field.

Top weight Fifteen Rounds from the Tamworth stable of Wayne Brown has won twice at the distance and has apprentice Nicholas Hyde taking 4.5 kilograms off.

Brown has 2 horses in the Cup but he expects strong opposition from Western Plains gallopers who include Star Link from Clint Lundholm’s stable who backs up from a top run in the Collie Cup at Gilgandra.

Gulgong duo winner Rothgate and Collie Cup winner So Country also will also have punters' interest.
