A man has died following a workplace incident in Walgett yesterday (Tuesday, 12 December) afternoon. 

Emergency services were called to the Kamilaroi Highway 60km south of Walgett at around 1:30pm, following reports a man had been struck by a truck at a worksite. 

The 40 year old man died at the scene. 

The truck driver - a 22 year old man - was taken to Walgett District Hospital for mandatory testing. 

Walgett Shire Council confirmed that the victim was not an employee of the council. 

“We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues who hae been impacted by their passing,” the council offered in a statement. 

“Safework NSW has been notified and we are cooperating with relevant authorities in the investigation.”

A crime scene was established, and an investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
