NSW National Parks have advised that due to increased risk of rockfall after significant rain Sandstone Caves will be CLOSED from this morning Sunday 27 April 2025.
The Sandstone Caves are located in the Pilliga Nature Reserve just off the Newell Highway north of Coonabarabran.
The caves are home to ancient Aboriginal rock art and were recently threatened by a bushfire in the area.
Pending a review of the site, National Parks NSW plan to re-open the walking track by 10am tomorrow, Monday 28 April 2025.
However the closure may be extended if there is significantly more rain than forecast.
"Please consult the http://nationalparks.nsw.gov.au website for details on all reserve alerts," a spokesperson said.Â
"We apologise for any inconvenience."
