Condobolin's RSL sub-branch has been given a lifeline after a strong showing of locals put their hand up to join.
Â
Up to 30 people took part in an emergency sub-branch meeting at the local RSL club on Saturday 8 February after RSL NSW notified they were considering closing it down.
Â
Eight former service people declared they would throw their hat in the ring for the committee, which has been inactive over recent years.
Â
"We weren't sure how many people were going to be there," Condobolin RSL Club Manager James Bennett said.
Â
"I had a couple of ex-service boys come in as well, who signed up. I think I got three new service people. "We now have enough servicemen to be able to fill all of our positions."
Â
The sub-branch also picked up about 20 'affiliate members' from the meeting, people who have not served in the armed forces but have family who did.

Mr Bennett said most people present at the meeting were "older," although also included a 26-year-old former navy serviceman.
Â
The sub-branch will formally select its committee during an Annual General Meeting on 15 March.
Â
Mr Bennett has said he will meet with RSL NSW officials on 25 February, where he expects to argue for the sub-branch to remain open.
Â
He said he understands that the turnout at the sub-branch meeting will ensure that happens. "The sub-branch will survive," Mr Bennett said.
