Teen arrested in Bourke over Cobar break-in

A 14-year-old boy will face court over alleged break and enter offences in Cobar and Orange.

Police say they were called to a home on Cobar's Longworth Street at around 7am on Tuesday 10 February.

They said officers were told that people got in and stole a bag and white utility before they drove off between 10pm on 9 February and 4am the next day.

"A crime scene has been established, and police commenced an investigation into the incident," a police spokesperson said.

"About 8am on the same day, police located the white Ute parked on Parkdale Road, Bourke, where they seized the vehicle to be forensically examined.

"Following inquiries, about 6pm yesterday (Thursday 12 February 2026), police arrested a 14-year-old boy in Bourke area."

He was taken to Bourke Police Station, where he was charged with offences including break and enter, stealing and disguising his face with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Police said they will also allege he tried to break into a home in Orange on Sunday 4 January.

They also allege he failed to pay for fuel at a service station in Cobar on the same day as the alleged Longworth Street break-in.

He was refused bail to appear at children’s court today (Friday 13 February).

Police said inquiries continue.
