Teen charged over gun theft near Dunedoo

Police have charged five people including a 17-year-old boy following an alleged firearms theft at a rural property in Dunedoo in late July.

 

A police spokesperson said rural crime investigators were patrolling in the area around 11:20am on 5 August when they spotted three men standing around a dirt bike in a lane way behind Digilah Road.

 

The investigators approached the men and performed searches, where police say they found a single-barrel shotgun.

 


Police also believe the dirt bike was stolen from the property at Uarbry at about 33 kilometres east of Dunedoo.

 

Two men aged 23 and 35 were taken to Mudgee Police Station.

 

"The younger man was taken to his home on Tucklan Street, Dunedoo, where police seized three firearms, a revolver, and ammunition, before he was taken to the Dunedoo Police Station," the police spokesperson said.

At 12.45pm on the following day, police say they carried out a Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) and a search warrant at a home on Ulan Road in Cooks Gap.

 

The spokesperson said that officers discovered vials of testosterone, and crystalline substance believed to be methylamphetamine.

 

Police also executed a search warrant a short time later at a storage shed in Gulgong's Saleyards Lane, where they seized testosterone.


 

They arrested a 34-year-old man at Mudgee Local Court before he was taken to the local police station.

 

At about 10.30am on Thursday 7 August, then attended a home on Springe Ridge Road in Gulgong, which they searched after speaking with the 55-year-old owner.

 

Police say they seized three rifles – two alleged to be stolen and one believed to be registered to the owner - and ammunition.

 

"The 55-year-old man was given a future court attendance notice for not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm, and recklessly deal with proceeds of crime," the spokesperson said.

 

At about 9:20am on Wednesday 13 August, a 17-year-old boy came to Dunedoo Police Station where he was arrested and taken to Mudgee.

 

The 35-year-old was charged with:

  • Aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal (three counts)
  • Use, supply, acquire, possess stolen firearm or part (12 counts)
  • Steal firearm or imitation firearm (13 counts)
  • Larceny (two counts)
  • Possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority, and
  • Deal with property proceeds of crime.

 

The 23-year-old was charged with:

  • Not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited (three counts)
  • Possess unregistered firearm-not pistol/prohibited firearm (two counts)
  • Use, supply, acquire, possess stolen firearm or part (two counts)
  • Possess stolen firearm or part
  • Possess loaded firearm public place
  • Possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, and
  • Possess unauthorised pistol.

 

The 34-year-old was charged with:

  • Two counts of possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance
  • Acquire firearm part - subject to prohibition order
  • Possess prohibited drug, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

 

The 17-year-old was charged with:

  • Two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal,
  • Thirteen counts of steal firearm or imitation firearm, and steal motor vehicle.

 

The oldest man will appear at Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday 1 October 2025.

 

The 35-year-old man was refused bail and appeared at Local Bail Division Court 4 on Wednesday 6 August, where he was formally refused bail to appear at Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday 27 August.

 

The 34-year-old man was refused bail and appeared at Local Bail Division Court 4 on Thursday 7 August, where he was formerly refused bail to appear at Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday 15 October.

 

The 23-year-old man was refused bail and appeared at Local Bail Division Court 4 on Wednesday 6 August, where he was given conditional bail to appear at Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday 27 August.

 

The boy was given conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Wednesday 10 September.
